Meet the Team
Judge Dan Barker, Ret.
Co-Founder & Chair
Until recently, I had been a lifelong Republican. I am now an Independent. I was appointed to the Maricopa County Superior Court and then to the Arizona Court of Appeals by two Republican governors (Fife Symington and Jane Hull respectively). I received my undergraduate degree from Stanford University, was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, received my law degree at Brigham Young University, and then a Masters in Law from the University of Virginia.
My relationship with the Republican Party dramatically changed when Donald Trump rose to prominence and then, as now, became the controlling figure within that party. I have always believed in a pluralistic democracy. We are not stronger because we all think the same. We are stronger when we are able to work together despite having different views.
From my perspective, Donald Trump does not espouse a view that shows respect to others when their views differ from his. In fact, and again from my perspective, with his derogatory name calling of those with whom he disagrees, and other actions, he acts in quite the opposite fashion and urges his followers to do likewise.
So where do Andy Biggs and Katie Hobbs fit into this scenario?
Andy Biggs touts himself as a devoted follower of Donald Trump. Katie Hobbs does not. Biggs claims an endorsement by Donald Trump as a reason to vote for him. Hobbs distances herself from Donald Trump and asserts that is a reason to vote for her. As I mentioned in an email to PAC members,
In 2020 then-Governor Doug Ducey (a Republican), famously declined to answer the phone when Donald Trump called to urge him not to certify Arizona’s Presidential Election that resulted in Joe Biden prevailing.
Katie Hobbs was the Secretary of State who forwarded the election results to Ducey for certification.
Andy Biggs was a US Congressman who actively opposed and voted against the certification of Arizona’s 2020 election results, demonstrating his loyalty to Donald Trump.
Whoever wins this year’s gubernatorial election will certify (or not) the results of the 2028 Presidential election. Who do I think will have the integrity to reject a call from Donald Trump should the 2028 Arizona election result in a non-Republican candidate prevailing? Biggs or Hobbs? I think it's pretty clear.
Although there are many more reasons, these are the primary reasons that I am voting for Katie Hobbs and not Andy Biggs. And of course, adding John Giles to the ticket makes Katie Hobbs even stronger.

I support Katie Hobbs and John Giles because I believe they will do right by all Arizonans. They both have strong track records of reaching across the aisle and putting their constituents first. Biggs only seems interested in keeping in good standing with Trump and the corporations who fund him.

Governor Hobbs has governed as a pragmatic, results-oriented executive, prioritizing water security, affordability, and small-business growth. Her business-friendly approach to state government allowed her administration’s Arizona Registrar of Contractors to help our company pressure an out-of-state business to fulfill its obligations without the expense of hiring attorneys and pursuing costly litigation. The addition of former Mayor John Giles also gives the ticket a strong voice for independents who prefer practical solutions to partisanship.
Andy Biggs offers the opposite: nearly a decade in Congress without a significant piece of substantive legislation passed into law, a ranking of 432nd out of 435 on a bipartisan index, and a voting record many Arizona voters see as extreme. His pattern of ineffectiveness has continued even under unified Republican control, leaving little evidence he would provide the no-nonsense leadership Arizona needs.

I spent most of my life voting Republican, and I still believe in the things that party once taught me: that character matters, that elections are settled by counting votes rather than by who shouts loudest, and that public office is a trust, not a weapon. That's why I'm voting for Katie Hobbs and John Giles this fall. When Arizona's 2020 and 2022 results were under attack, Hobbs did the unglamorous, thankless work of certifying the outcome and defending it in court, and she did it under real threats to her safety. John Giles spent more than a decade running Mesa as a Republican mayor, balancing budgets and building a city without ever pretending an election he didn't like hadn't happened. This isn't a ticket that asks me to abandon my values. It's a ticket that honors them, at a moment when the alternative is built on grievance, on treating fellow Arizonans as enemies, and on the idea that a lost election is just a stolen one. I'd rather back two people who put Arizona over party, tell the truth even when it costs them, and accept the results whether they win or lose.

As a mother of six children and a former teacher of 11 years, I have a strong interest in creating communities that are safe, peaceful, and welcoming for everyone. Our local government should provide fair and equal representation for all its people. Governor Hobbs has a strong history of working across the partisan divide, and that commitment to finding common ground is further demonstrated in her choice of Lieutenant Governor, John Giles. Their partnership represents a willingness to put people and good governance ahead of political division.
My faith is deeply rooted in equality and dignity for all humanity. I have seen both Hobbs and Giles approach immigration-related policies with respect and compassion for human life. I believe Hobbs and Giles can be leaders in civility—leaders who listen, seek common ground, and treat those with whom they disagree with respect. I also believe they will honor the rule of law while keeping compassion and human dignity at the heart of their decisions. I’m voting for Hobbs/Giles because I believe Arizona needs leaders who will govern with integrity and remind us that we are stronger when we work together.

I’m voting for Hobbs and Giles because I want a team who has shown that they put Arizona first.
As a teacher, supporting public education is high on my list of qualifications. I love the way Hobbs and Giles ignore party lines to get things done.
Conversely, their opponent has shown that he supports one person, not his constituents. There are many examples of this including aiding in the planning of the insurrection of the capitol, requesting that Arizona’s voting results not be certified, voting to keep the Epstein files closed, and allowing the president to enrich himself because of his office. It doesn’t take long to see where his loyalty lies.
Hobbs and Giles have my enthusiastic vote!

Governor Hobbs is in touch with the priorities and values of independent Arizonans. She stands for common sense over partisan pandering. She works to earn our votes rather than to overturn them after a free and fair election. Her spending priorities advance our quality of life instead of wasting money grandstanding over imaginary problems.
Mayor Giles brings the same approach — a proven record of governing the right way, by making smart investments in our community instead of chasing headlines with outrageous rhetoric.
A vote for Hobbs/Giles is a vote to reject the politics of fear and division. Arizona doesn’t need more conflict and outrage. It needs a government that works. That’s what Hobbs and Giles have delivered, and that’s why they have earned my vote.

As a young person in Arizona, I have grown frustrated with politicians who rely on scare tactics instead of real leadership. I like that Katie Hobbs has a track record of working across the aisle to make a meaningful impact. With the growing polarization that has increasingly defined our state and national politics, it is more important than ever to elect a leader who will work with people from across the political spectrum to represent all Arizonans. I trust her to maintain and strengthen Arizona's commitment to transparency and the rule of law, rather than undermining trust in public institutions and election integrity.
Her running mate, John Giles, has also demonstrated a commitment to his community and to pragmatic leadership. As a lifelong resident of Mesa, I have watched him connect with his constituents as mayor, taking on real issues that affect our daily lives instead of engaging in partisan politics. The fact that Hobbs and Giles have different political affiliations further confirms that they will work across partisan lines to improve Arizona for all. Together, they bring a broad perspective and will use collaboration and common sense to meet the needs of our diverse state.
Hobbs and Giles have my vote.
